Administration of Medication Training
Administration of Medication Training provides staff working in a healthcare / health and social care settings with sufficient information to be able to safely undertake the role of basic medication administration in accordance with the organisational policy and within the boundaries of their training / role. This course provides information of the handling, administrating and disposal of medication within a care environment. Whether that be nurses, carers or community support workers.
Medication can be dangerous when misused but when used effectively is a very powerful tool to alleviate symptoms and improve or prolong a persons life.
Healthcare professionals are not only responsible for the safe delivery of medication but also upholding dignity, encouraging independence and respecting choices the service user/patient makes.
This course is delivered over 3 hours at your venue with a qualified instructor at dates and times to suit your staff. Certification is awarded upon completion and is advised to refresh annually for any medication updates.
Medication Administration training is also an excellent refresher course for healthcare professionals with the responsibility of receiving, storing, administering and the disposing of medication.
Course Contents:
- Discuss and gain knowledge about licensed medication
- Be aware of the legislation relating to medication and its application
- Know the routes of administration and the theory of how to safely administer via the most frequently used routes
- Appreciate the importance of and legal aspects of medication administration
- Complete the appropriate documentation in relation to medication
- Consider the term ‘consent’, how it should be applied in medication administration and how medication can be abused
- Recognise the signs and symptoms of an allergic reaction and the actions to take.
