Manual Handling Course – 3 Hours
This Manual Handling course is ideal for anyone who moves heavy loads or people as part of their role and will benefit all employees, so that they understand the risks associated with manual handling and apply the principles of safer handling to their work.
Any job that involves heavy labour or manual material handling may include a high risk for injury on the job. Manual material handling entails lifting, but also usually includes climbing, pushing, pulling, and pivoting, all of which pose the risk of injury. In conclusion, the most commonly reported workplace accidents and illness involved injuries are a result of not being aware of basic manual handling techniques.

Firstly, manual handling is a practical activity and employees can demonstrate techniques best with hands on practical sessions with attendees being involved of which online training cannot achieve. Attendees will get to practice with assessments and demonstrate best posture and stance as well as how to optimise their centre of gravity to best effect.
Delivery
This qualification has been designed to provide an update of manual handling to candidates holding the Level 2 Award or who have completed a non-accredited certification in manual handling. This course is also suitable for candidates who wish basic manual handling awareness. Course content can be adapted to the workplace depending on the type of manual handling involved of people, objects and materials.

- Manual handling risk assessments
- Principles of moving clients in a care situation
Demonstrations for the safe handling and moving of people (suitable care, nursing, or residential homes):
- Moving a person in a bed
- Moving a person in a chair
- Transferring a person from a bed to a chair
- Assisting a person to walk
- Principles of using a hoist (applicable to the individual care setting)
- Using Manual Handling aids
Demonstrations for objects and loads (suitable for industrial or office environments):
- Moving a objects ie; boxes, materials etc
- Moving of unstable objects or loads
- Using Manual Handling aids
