Allergy and Anaphylaxis Awareness (Benedict’s Law)
Allergy and Anaphylaxis Awareness training officially becomes mandatory for all maintained schools, academies and independent schools with the introduction of the new legislation of Benedict’s Law in September 2026.
Therefore, the new legislation requires all schools to implement the following safeguards:
Comprehensive Allergy Policies: Schools must publish their whole school allergy management policies on their official websites.
Staff Training: All school staff, including teachers, lunchtime supervisors, caretakers, bus drivers etc must undergo comprehensive allergy and awareness training including emergency response training of administering an auto injector.
Emergency Medication: All schools must hold spare, in-date adrenaline auto injectors on site to be able to treat any individual suffering from an anaphylactic shock.
Individual Care Plans: Schools must maintain individual healthcare and action plans for pupils suffering from severe food, animal or venom allergies.
Although Anaphylaxis training is included in a Paediatric First Aid 12hr course, what is not included in first aid courses is allergen awareness which entails training on the 14 allergens, prepping and safety of food handling etc.
Therefore, our new Allergy and Anaphylaxis Awareness is a combination of the two and is ideal for all school staff to be able to meet the requirements of the new legislation of Benedict’s Law.
